Ms Abi Davey

NHS East of England Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Midwife

Abi qualified as a midwife in 2013; prior to this she worked in politics. Since becoming a midwife, she has worked in a variety of clinical roles, most recently as part of the team that introduced and led the changeover to the Continuity of Carer model. She was funded by the AHSN to complete an MSc in Evidence-Based Health Care at the University of Oxford and is currently in receipt of a research development grant from the University of Oxford Department of Primary Health Care. Her research focuses on the extent to which empowerment and autonomy are experienced by ethnic minority women using maternity services.

Abi leads on the data and digital agenda for Maternity, with a particular focus on outcomes for vulnerable groups. She has led on the Equity and Equality evaluation for the LMNS, was project lead for the recent Birth Rate Plus review and currently chairs a task group for the region, standardising data collection, dashboards and reporting. She works to support the delivery of accurate, clinically relevant obstetric and workforce data to inform clinical decision making and service planning. Abi works with clinicians across all relevant specialties to build and adapt data systems that are intuitive, reliable and time efficient.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Being an NHS Regional Clinical Fellow for the East of England offers Abi the opportunity to work with and learn from this talented and inspiring team. There are strategic challenges she is looking forward to learning more about and hopes to eventually be able to lead on approaches to address these challenges. By leading on regional strategies that can be adaptive and transferable at a local level, we can save time and resources needed for clinical care. Abi is hoping to learn how to be an insightful and supportive leader who can draw together all the talents and perspectives we already have into sustainable and efficient solutions.
