Miss Claire Morley

Health Education England North West 2021/22
Chief Dental Officer's Clinical Fellow 2021/22

Claire Morley completed her BDS studies at Liverpool University, qualifying in 2012. Prior to this, in 2008, Claire completed a BSc in Medical Biology, and has since, in 2020, completed an MSc in Psychology, both at UCLan. Claire worked as a GDP since qualifying, however her clinical practice came to a temporary end in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. In January 2021 she began as a Site Lead on the COVID-19 mass vaccination programme taking responsibility for the safe and effective delivery of vaccinations to the UK population.

Reason for applying for the scheme

In 2018 Claire began to see the challenges faced within dentistry, and began to wonder what the future dental workforce would look like, and what implications this would have on the dental health of the UK population. Intrigued by data which showed poor mental health within the profession, alongside a desire of many to leave the workforce or country, she began her Masters in Psychology. Initially Claire wanted to research resilience in dental students, however, following the outbreak of COVID-19, turned her research to well-being and resilience during the pandemic and subsequent social isolation. Since leading the mass vaccination programme, Claire has been able to see the potential she has to be a great leader within Healthcare, and the positive impact she could have on public health. She believes this scheme will give her the skills and experience that she requires to continue her personal development as a leader, and to further pursue her career in public health.
