Dr Claudy Henein
Claudy Henein qualified from Newcastle University in 2017. She then spent a year in London where she completed foundation training and membership exams for the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Claudy has completed dental core training years in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Paediatrics, Orthodontics and Community dentistry. Committed to postgraduate education, Claudy has completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Education, from the University of Edinburgh and the Edward Jenner NHS Leadership Academy Award.
Claudy’s most recent role in Dental Public Health has provided the opportunity to work with the regional dental public health team, dental networks and COVID-19 operational group to implement national priorities, regionally. Her data analysis of the urgent dental care services during the COVID-19 pandemic and presentation of the findings to various key stakeholders has enabled the team to evaluate the changing dental service provision and adapt it to the local needs of the population.
Reason for applying for the scheme
Claudy is extremely passionate about improving the oral health of the population and in particular, reducing the health inequalities that exist. Claudy believes that the fellow scheme will be an invaluable experience, providing the opportunity to address pressing healthcare issues, such as barriers to services, disparities in health outcomes and the long-term impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on service provision, whilst collaborating with key stakeholders and allied healthcare professionals.Claudy anticipates that the fellow scheme will be a highly immersive experience, and is confident such experiential learning at this early stage of her career will be pivotal to embed and develop positive leadership and population health practices for the future. It will grant her the opportunity to learn from influential leaders and role models. These transferable skills will be applicable in a variety of settings, whether clinical, academic, or in dental education.
