NHS Clinical Leadership and Engagement Showcase

The FMLM was a sponsor at the Clinical Leadership and Engagement Showcase at SWALEC Stadium, Cardiff on 20 March. Dr Brendan Lloyd, Regional Lead for Wales hosted a breakfast session for Welsh FMLM members which was attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr Ruth Hussey and Dr Laura Jackson, appointed Regional Trainee Representative for Wales. Dr Brendan Lloyd delivered a presentation that included the vision of FMLM, FMLM governance, Welsh membership demographics, key membership benefits, and FMLM activities. This was followed by an open discussion focused on how to take FMLM Wales forward. This included identifying leadership activities across Wales and finding a means to work together and map them to communicate better to the public Wales’ leadership agenda. FMLM will be involved in this work.

The conference proper started after the breakfast session. Dr Ruth Hussey delivered the opening address and the keynote address was on ‘Rethinking Leadership’ delivered by Nick Obolensky, CEO of Complex Adaptive Learning.  After this were sessions on working with others, delivering clinical services, clinical leadership education and research and clinical engagement.

In the afternoon, the Chair’s address was delivered by Prof Jean White, Chief Nursing Officer/ Nurse Director for NHS Wales with the afternoon opening address by David Sissling, Director General Health and Social Services/ Chief Executive NHS Wales. This was followed by afternoon concurrent sessions. The conference ended with a keynote address from members of the Armed Forces talking about leadership in the Armed Forces.
