Mr Gavin Wilson
Following qualification in Dentistry, from the University of Glasgow in 2012, Gavin completed Dental Foundation and Dental Core Training in restorative dentistry, oral surgery and oral & maxillofacial surgery. During this time, he experienced General Dental Practice and the Community/Public Dental Service.
In September 2018 he commenced a Specialist Registrar position in Oral Surgery with Health Education England, Yorkshire and the Humber region. This is a three- year training programme that will lead to specialist registration in oral surgery with the General Dental Council. Committed to postgraduate education, Gavin has completed a PG Cert in Medical Education and a PG Diploma in Conscious Sedation.
He is an active member of the Royal College of Physician & Surgeons of Glasgow where he is currently a member of the Dental Education, Training and Professional Development Board. This role allows him to support the team in organising CPD courses, lectures and conferences. Recently he was elected as Trainee Representative on the Council of the British Association of Oral Surgeons.
Gavin is enjoying the opportunity to work in a leadership capacity, with the potential to influence and initiate positive change within the dental profession. This experience will provide him with a unique period of personal and professional development that will undoubtedly make him a stronger and more able clinician who has the skills to enhance and improve patient care and health provision. Spending time with and observing respected leaders who are role models in their fields, will equip him with the confidence to communicate and work collaboratively with senior stakeholders in the future. He knows that this role will empower him with transferable skills and attributes that he can use to improve healthcare and patient safety in future roles. Participation in the Clinical Fellow Scheme will provide him with an insight into policy development. Additionally, forging strong relationships with the leaders of today and tomorrow, while developing confident networking and oratory skills (areas he continuously aspires to improve) will, he hopes, be fulfilled during his fellowship.
