Miss Louise Keable

NHS London Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Midwife

Louise Keable is a Midwife specialising in perinatal mental health. She studied both her undergraduate Midwifery and postgraduate Advanced Clinical Practitioner degrees at the University of Bedfordshire. Louise has worked in several maternity units in and around London in both community and hospital settings.

Since taking on her specialist role, she has had a passion for improving clinical outcomes and experiences, having had exposure to the barriers to care and consequences of this through the service users she meets. During her masters she undertook modules in human factors and leadership. Louise works with a range of stakeholders, engaging multi-disciplinary teams to continuously learn and improve services in both maternity and mental health settings. Louise currently sits as part of the Maternal Mental Health Services (MMHS) transformation project and regularly attends regional meetings to support the implementation of the project and ensure the voice of Midwifery is represented and heard. She recently contributed to a panel discussion with the Maternity All-Party Parliamentary Group, highlighting the critical need for more attention and investment into perinatal mental health.

Louise continues to work clinically and is dedicated to providing safe, practical, and holistic care to the service users of South West London.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Louise first gained an interest in clinical leadership when she participated in a postgraduate module, and then again via an internal course provided by her employer. She has begun to have insight into the inner working of the NHS through some of the regional meetings she has participated in, but wanted the opportunity to understand in depth how today’s NHS drives improvement, change and service provision. Louise was delighted at the prospect of combining practical project management alongside leadership education, and is hopeful the experience will strengthen her contribution to the future of maternity services.
