Dr Namritha Ramanujam

NHS Midlands Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Doctor

Namritha Ramanujam studied medicine at the University of Manchester where she was an active member of the student body and was elected the President role in the National Hindu Society Forum - Manchester. This experience helped her gain experiences in public speaking, project management, setting a vision and goals aiming to provide a ‘home away from home’ and bring students together.

She then completed her foundation training in South Thames deanery, then moved to the Severn deanery to complete her Internal Medical Training in July 2022 having rotated through many specialties.

Currently, Namritha is working as a clinical fellow in Haematology, a varied, ever expanding, and vast specialty. Although she has not settled on an area of medicine to specialise in yet, she is fascinated by areas in Haematology and Cardiovascular medicine. She has set up regular ‘in situ’ simulation sessions within the department by working with other doctors and nursing colleagues as a quality improvement initiative due to previous experiences of acute situations in an outpatient set up. Furthermore, she has been involved in creating e-learning aimed at internal medical trainees to improve their confidence in running outpatient clinics.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Namritha’s interest to participate in leadership within the wider healthcare system was sparked during her role as a medical registrar where she was confronted with conflicts and challenges with resource allocation, team management and ultimately patient safety/care. Since engaging with the local hospital Trust board to gain an understanding into how an NHS organisation prioritises, makes decisions, and takes actions, it has compelled her to get involved at a regional level and to want to be at that decision making table.

Namritha is passionate about preventative medicine and implementing robust primary prevention strategies and integrated systems to ensure seamless, timely and appropriate healthcare services. So, given the evolving NHS this is a very exciting time to be involved at this level and Namritha hopes to make the most of her skills, training and networking opportunities in her role as an NHS regional clinical fellow to make a positive impact in those areas.

Another area of interest for Namritha is staff wellbeing, including medical trainees, international medical graduates and allied healthcare professionals. She wants to work on elevating overall levels of staff morale, looking at areas of improvement ranging from appropriate training, digital facilities, infrastructure to looking at what makes someone feel valued as an individual contributor or team member within an organisation.

During her time as an NHS Regional Clinical Fellow, Namritha is looking forward to further developing her leadership skills in the broader healthcare system and is excited to work with multi-disciplinary teams to attain shared goals.
