Mrs Trudie Curtis

NHS North West Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Midwife

Trudie Curtis qualified as a midwife in 2007 and has gained a vast range of clinical experience in all areas of maternity service. Throughout her career she has had a passion for providing the best possible service and care for women and families, and has always been a keen advocate for both staff and patients.

Trudie's real passion has been in the provision of high risk labour care and in 2017 she became a Labour Suite Coordinator where she has thrived on the opportunities this presented for multidisciplinary working to provide high quality and safe care. Trudie has loved the opportunities this has presented and the experience gained in Clinical Leadership and supporting her team to maximise their own potential and to ensure safety is maintained across the unit.

Trudie has been involved in several service improvement projects including implementing changes to the antenatal screening pathway for all women in order to reduce the rates of missed cases of small for gestational age infants, and leading on the precept project at her Trust which implemented the use of magnesium sulphate to prevent cerebral palsy in preterm birth. She has recently devised a PPH prevention scoring tool to be used for all women during labour to try and reduce the current high rates of postpartum haemorrhage.

Trudie has also trained as a Professional Midwifery Advocate and helped to launch the PMA service which supports midwives with their professional and personal wellbeing.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Trudie is eager to learn and to develop her knowledge and skills. She is keen to progress within her career to a higher level of leadership and management and welcomes the opportunity to contribute to regional and national priorities to gain exposure at this level. Trudie is passionate to continue contributing to maternity services but would welcome the opportunity to see how this fits into the wider NHS model. She feels excited to embark on a new challenge and to maximise the positive impact that can have on her future career path.
