Miss Minna Eii

South East London Integrated Care System
Chief Sustainability Officer's Clinical Fellow 2023/24
Pharmacist

Minna is an Acute Medicine Advanced Pharmacist Practitioner at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust and has recently completed her MSc in Environment and Human Health with University of Exeter, Cornwall. She also currently works as an Urgent Care NHS 111 Pharmacist with North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust.

She was an international student who graduated from University of Sunderland in 2013 where she held leadership roles early on as President of their pharmacy students’ association and national executive committee of the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association. She currently co-chairs the sustainability working group for European Association of Hospital Pharmacists and co-authored the sustainability statement for the International Pharmaceutical Federation. Minna was elected the Vice Chair of Sustainability at the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists and co-founded the environmentally conscious UK pharmacy group Pharmacy Declares. She chaired the national Sustainability in Pharmacy Education group and co-produced the sustainability learning outcomes document for undergraduate pharmacy curriculum which was officially endorsed by the Pharmacy Schools Council UK. She is currently involved in writing the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s pharmacy decarbonisation guide commissioned by NHS England and the development of a self-accreditation web platform for pharmacies to assess their environmental impacts due to launch in 2024.

She is currently a member of the Society of Acute Medicine and North East England’s Faculty of Sustainable Healthcare. She sits in her Trust’s sustainability team and North East North Cumbria ICS’s greener medicines optimisation team.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Minna described the Chief Sustainability Officer’s Clinical Fellow Scheme as her dream job where she gets to work and learn from exceptional leaders in the healthcare sustainability field. She hopes the scheme will strengthen her leadership abilities to work in local, regional, national and international platforms, engaging diverse network of people working towards sustainable healthcare.

As a proud pharmacist, she believes the entire pharmacy workforce has the potential to help NHS meet net zero ambitions through innovative leaner care pathways, public health prevention, promoting lower carbon alternatives and empowering patients to self-care at home. She would like to realise this vision by gaining insights from working in higher levels where strategic decisions are made and maximise the potential of pharmacy’s change agents.

Having undertaken the NHS Leadership Academy’s Sustainability Leadership for Greener Health and Care Programme, she identified further knowledge and skills gap in being a proficient leader. Based on excellent feedback from previous CSusO’s clinical fellows and alumni in the FMLM’s fellowship schemes, she is hopeful that this unique opportunity will allow her to reflect, grow and develop lifelong skills which she could utilise in future workstreams.
