Mr Andrew Mikhail

Clinical Fellow, General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Prior to becoming a Clinical Fellow Andrew worked as the Lead Pharmacist for Surgery and Parenteral Nutrition at the Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust). Andrew is an Advanced Pharmacist Prescriber with clinical experience in managing infectious diseases and intestinal failure. Andrew has held a number of clinical and management roles in several teaching and general acute hospitals in London and the South West of England. He also undertook different roles working abroad in different countries with varying healthcare systems, in terms of health priorities and complexity. These different experiences have enriched his career development and exposure to the several challenges facing global health.

He has been involved in several multi-professional projects across the primary and secondary care interface. During his master’s degree project he worked closely with South-East-Staffordshire GP-partners to assess the role of practice pharmacists in reducing medicines waste. He also worked with Somerset-Symphony-Hub and local social workers to develop care plans for frail-older-patients and adopt a whole-system patient-focused approach. He has always been an advocate for closer integration between different health and social care organisations in order to maintain a sustainable health system and eliminate health inequalities.

He aspires to be a true leader using his initiatives and skills to influence healthcare-professionals to drive quality, efficiency and best outcomes for patients while staying true to NHS principles and values. He strongly believes that this fellowship is an excellent opportunity to further develop behaviours/competencies in clinical leadership and management. He is also looking forward to learning from our healthcare leaders while working with the different organisations hosting this fellowship. His main objective is to come out of this programme equipped with a vision and sustainable approach to enable him to deal with the different challenges and opportunities within the UK health system.
