Dr Suzanne Tang

Suzanne graduated from UCL Medical School in 2009 and completed her foundation training in district general hospitals in Surrey and Kent. She returned to the hustle and bustle of the city to take up core training in ACCS (Anaesthetics) in east London in 2012, finishing at the Royal London Hospital in 2016.

Suzanne has always been interested in the wider perspective around health and medicine. During medical school, she undertook an intercalated BSc in History of Medicine at the Wellcome Trust, followed by a medical elective in Tanzania, observing the epidemiology of disease and the practice of medicine in a low-income setting. Continuing this interest, she completed an MSc in Global Health and Development at UCL in 2013, where she developed a renewed passion for public health and the wider determinants of health and health inequalities.

As a result, upon completing core training in Anaesthesia, Suzanne made a leap of faith and left clinical medicine to pursue a career in Public Health. She is now an ST4 public health trainee in South London, having completed the MSc in Public Health at LSHTM and gained membership to the Faculty of Public Health in 2019. Suzanne has worked across a diverse range of organisations including Southwark local authority, SH:24 a digital sexual and reproductive health provider, and Public Health England, where she has been actively involved in the acute health protection response to COVID-19 in London.

Suzanne has a particular interest in the delivery of high quality health and care services to improve population health and reduce health inequalities. She has been fortunate in working closely with healthcare leaders in the local setting, observing first-hand how strong leadership drives improvement and transformation. Through this clinical fellowship, Suzanne hopes to gain a better understanding of the health and care system and broaden her experience of system leadership at a national level.
