Dr Natasha Matthews

Clinical Fellow, General Medical Council

Natasha studied Medicine at the Hull-York Medical School and holds a BSc (Hons) in Global Health from Imperial College London. As a student, Natasha worked extensively within the organisation Students for Global Health, focusing her research and advocacy towards the development of global health education options for students, including responsible and ethical elective placements at home and abroad. Having graduated in 2018, Natasha undertook an Academic Foundation Programme with Newcastle University, spending time in both clinical work and academia. Recent ventures include: working in Trauma and Orthopaedics, research into health and social care for older people in South Asia and the impact of global health education programmes on doctor’s clinical practice and career choice. Natasha is delighted to be carrying out the National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow Scheme at the General Medical Council, within the Fitness to Practise directorate.

Natasha is passionate about health equity, leading her to seek opportunities to develop skills in leadership, management and health policy and strategy development. Working within the General Medical Council’s Fitness to Practise directorate, Natasha hopes to gain skills in project management and develop her interests in medical ethics, health policy and law. Natasha believes educating health professionals about global health is fundamental to ensuring they can work effectively in an increasingly globalised world. She hopes to get involved with the GMC’s work on the regulation of medical curricula and developing outcomes for graduates reflecting these priorities.
