Dr Kate Kanga

Clinical Fellow, Care Quality Commission

Dr. Kate Kanga is an ST6 Anaesthetist, graduating from the University of Manchester in 2007. Kate undertook ACCS, Intermediate and Higher Anaesthetic Training on the South Coast and successfully completed MRCP and FRCA examinations. She has a deep interest in leadership development and has held multiple leadership roles throughout her career. Kate currently holds positions on the Anaesthetic training day committee, the TEDxNHS partnerships team and as a COVID trainee lead.

During her training, Kate has led numerous quality improvement and clinical research projects presented nationally and internationally, some of which have been recognised with national awards. Currently, Kate is co-lead for a multi-centre research study into peri-operative anaemia.

Kate has a keen interest in teaching; in particular multi-disciplinary teaching of human factors. She has implemented novel techniques that bring training into the workplace: most recently co-leading the COVID simulation anaesthetic training in her Trust, to over 150 healthcare professionals. She is a long-standing EPALS instructor and teaches at Brighton and Sussex Medical School. Kate is passionate about promoting colleague wellbeing and championing work-life balance, providing support to trainees in difficulty and in a formal role as mentor.

Outside of Medicine, Kate enjoys running, cycling and paddle boarding with her husband and two children."

Kate believes that excellent leadership is the key to success in providing continuously improving, safe, effective and compassionate care in demanding times. Kate is excited to have been appointed a fellow of the National Medical Director Clinical Fellow Scheme at CQC. She regards this as a unique opportunity to work alongside senior leaders to develop her understanding and ability to manage projects in healthcare delivery, regulation and improvement on a national scale.
