Dr Olivia Kay

Clinical Fellow, Public Health England

Olivia studied graduate medicine at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry after gaining a first class degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Edinburgh. This gave her a strong grounding in critical appraisal and analysis of evidence which she utilised throughout her graduate medical degree, in the writing of a review article for publication, a number of QuIPs and teaching more junior medical students. During her medical training she achieved the Durbin award for the best oral case presentation at the Association of Early Pregnancy Units annual conference for a project she undertook looking at the diagnosis and management of ectopic pregnancies in East London.

Olivia commenced the Oxford Academic Foundation programme where she built on her interest in Quality Improvement within the NHS as a local principal investigator for a number of national and international projects. Through this work she gained a greater insight into the technical challenges of organising large scale projects. Olivia is passionate about medical education, completing a medical education course at the University of Oxford and tutoring medical students, nurses, and junior doctors during her foundation training and beyond.

Olivia has just finished the first year of Internal Medicine Training and hopes to build on the experience of this fantastic opportunity at Public Health England.

Outside medicine, Olivia enjoys being outdoors and trekked to Everest Base Camp in April 2019. She has recently developed an interest in road cycling and is enjoying the ability to combine her love of the outdoors and coffee!

Olivia is extremely enthused to commence her year as the National Medical Director’s clinical fellow at Public Health England. She is looking forward to the opportunity to build on the work she has already undertaken, to learn more about the principles that surround leadership and management in the NHS and to think more strategically about how she might effect wider change.
