In April 2021, Nuthana was elected Vice President of the Medical Women's Federation, the largest body of women doctors in the UK, becoming the first junior doctor to be elected to this role. In April 2023, she took up her second term of office. In this role, Nuthana contributes to national consultations, chairs meetings, contributes to governance and liaising with members to ensure the organisation remains relevant. In February 2022, Nuthana began the world’s first podcast aimed at supporting and empowering medical women in their careers, The Medical Women Podcast. She has now hosted and produced over 50 episodes with over 10k listens in over 60 countries!

Outside of medicine, Nuthana loves dancing and spending time in nature. She recently started a YouTube channel, DrNuthana, through which she produces videos to make health fun for children.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Nuthana is committed to supporting as many people to be as healthy as possible, and is particularly interested in educating and empowering children to be healthy. As the environment and health are so interconnected, Nuthana felt that this fellowship would allow her to contribute to projects that impact on the workforce and wider population. Nuthana has been part of the RCPCH Climate Change Working Group and is excited to broaden her understanding of how we empower individuals and organisations to make system level change in the NHS. As Vice President of the Medical Women’s Federation, Nuthana holds a national leadership role and hopes the fellowship will support her to further develop her leadership and management skills.

Nuthana is really excited to contribute to multiple projects and to collaborate with the other FMLM clinical fellows.
