Mrs Onyinye Ndefo

Onyinye currently works as an Advanced Specialist Pharmacist in Haematology and Clinical Trials. She works with a range of stakeholders and multidisciplinary teams to proactively deliver a safe and effective clinical pharmacy service to patients. She led the pharmacy set-up and delivery of the COVID-19 clinical trials in 2020 which saw her trust recognised as one of the top recruiters for the RECOVERY trial.

Onyinye started her pharmacy career in London as a community pharmacist following her pre-registration year. She worked as a locum pharmacist in various independent pharmacies for a year before relocating to Northampton to start a new role as a rotational pharmacist in Northampton General Hospital. During this time, she completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (Hospital) with distinction from De Montfort University. She eventually moved into Cancer Services working in adult and paediatric oncology multidisciplinary teams. She recently obtained a Practice Certificate in Independent Prescribing from De Montfort University.

Onyinye is a member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) and the British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA). She serves as the secretary of the Research Shared Decision Making Council (SDMC) at her trust.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Onyinye is passionate about leadership and has the vision to be an excellent leader. She understands the impact a great leader has on the teams they lead and she is keen to use the unique opportunities offered through the scheme to develop her leadership skills and knowledge.

She hopes this experience will help her expand beyond her leadership expertise and strengths to become a well-rounded 360° leader who is able to lead up, lead across and lead down at any organisation or team she is a member of.
