Miss Pilar Bustamante

NHS South East Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2021/22

Pilar trained as a Physiotherapist in Chile in 2008 and in 2010 started her career in the NHS working in trauma and orthopaedics, community hospitals and learning disabilities.

Since then she has completed post-graduate training in neurorehabilitation, clinical management of dysphagia, project management, quality improvement and clinical leadership. She is currently completing an MBA in collaborative leadership at Canterbury Christchurch University.

Pilar currently works as Clinical Lead Physiotherapist in learning disabilities and as Physiotherapy Professional Lead in adult services at Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust. She is passionate about facilitating others' development and embed 'leading by example' when supervising others and peer supporting colleagues. She is a keen practice educator and mentors other Physiotherapists through the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Pilar's career development to date has cemented her passion for leadership, service development, reducing health inequalities and demonstrating the value that Physiotherapists bring to the NHS and communities.

She is incredibly excited to take part in the scheme since it provides an unmissable opportunity to continue to develop her leadership skills while influencing system change and transformation for the ultimate benefit of the NHS workforce and the people it serves.

Furthermore, the last two years working in a split clinical and non-clinical role have increased her appetite to continue to develop and experience leadership in a wider sphere of influence and responsibility.
