Dr Rebecca Rhodes

NHS Midlands Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Doctor

Rebecca Rhodes is a Paediatric Registrar based in the East Midlands. She studied at Nottingham University and completed Foundation Training in the East Midlands before volunteering as a Medical Officer in a NGO Hospital in North West Bangladesh, after which she returned to the UK for Paediatric training. During her training she has become increasingly aware of the differences in healthcare experiences nationally and internationally, particularly for children, and the impact of climate change on these growing inequalities. Throughout training, Rebecca has worked in a variety of settings providing Paediatric Services including Community clinics, Acute Paediatrics, Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care, Tertiary Specialist Services and General District Hospitals. She was involved in local ICS NetZero discussions and meetings leading up to the development of the Nottinghamshire ICS Green Plan and continues to seek to make local links to work towards the GreenerNHS targets. Alongside the fellowship, Rebecca will be working with children with disabilities and their families and facilitating the local Paediatric Green Group; investing time with a hope to holistically help those she serves.

Reason for applying for the scheme

As a paediatric trainee who recognises the impact of wider social determinants on health, Rebecca is keen to understand more how leaders of health services prioritise and allocate resources according to challenges faced at present whilst planning for those anticipated in the future and how acute trusts can work as part of Integrated Care Systems to serve the population in a way that promotes health and wellbeing for all, particularly children and young people. She has witnessed excellent examples of behaviours outlined in the NHS Healthcare Leadership Model which she seeks to mirror in her day-to-day clinical duties and recognises the benefits of Learning through Excellence. Rebecca hopes to use this fellowship to build upon her leadership and management skills and that it will help her continue on her journey to becoming one of many compassionate Paediatric leaders in the future.
