About Me

I support ambitious Consultants and GPs in designated leadership roles to become more effective leaders, so that they can create fulfilling medical leadership careers and develop high performing healthcare services in today’s changing healthcare landscape.

With 11 years of corporate coaching experience, and 14 years of leading and facilitating change across multiple health & social care economies, I have worked in partnership with 100s of medical leaders to improve how healthcare is delivered to patients: from clinically led speciality improvement projects to regional service reconfiguration programmes spanning multiple health and care organisations.

I strongly believe that supporting doctors to have greater impact as leaders of healthcare services is one of the primary ways that today’s NHS can adapt to meet its challenges.  This is why I created Rhapsody Medical Leadership Development: to offer 1:1, team and organisational coaching programmes to expand medical leadership impact in a way that one-off costly training programmes, or traditional consultancy support, may not.

With an empathetic but gently challenging style, I support my coaching clients to build self-awareness, grow in confidence and engage most effectively with others whilst taking tangible action towards achieving their leadership development goals. My approach integrates executive coaching with facilitation, mentoring and consulting expertise developed throughout a career in healthcare.

Coaching Process

Coaching packages are tailored to meet your personal needs, however, here is an example of a typical seven stage coaching programme:

Step 1: Are we the right coach / client fit?

I offer a free 30-minute consult call for us to get to know each other, explore your coaching needs and decide if we are the right fit to work together.

Step 2: Initiate your coaching programme

If you decide to work with me, we will start to explore your current situation and draft clear goals to give your coaching programme a focus.  We will design your coaching programme and agree the practicalities of how we will work together to achieve your goals.

Step 3: Explore your leadership goals

Here we go into greater depth about your goals and measures of success.  We will explore what is getting in the way of you being the leader that you really want to be, including your own mindset, your wider life and your interactions with others.  At the same time, we will take steps to ensure that you feel motivated and committed to achieving your goals.

Step 4: Understand yourself, your interpersonal relationships and your current situation

We delve deeper into who you are, what makes you tick and what you really want from your professional career as a medical leader including: values, expectations, relationships, beliefs, assumptions, thought patterns, behaviours and aspirations.  Through this process we will identify recurrent themes and patterns that are relevant to the achievement of your goals and start to experiment with how to alter these to better serve you as a medical leader.

Step 5: Create a compelling leadership vision

Next, we create an exciting, detailed vision of your life once you have achieved your goals and become the leader that you want to be, embedding this in your mind as a powerful visualisation.  Working backwards from here, we start to define your leadership strategy and plan for how you will get there.

Step 6: Transform your leadership mindset and impact

Over several sessions, we will put more detail into your plan whilst continuing to take tangible actions within and between session to achieve your leadership vision.  Through our work you will create, practice and refine the mindset that you need for leadership success alongside practical changes to how you lead and manage in your role, e.g. altering your communications or more clearly defining team roles.  You should notice a continual positive shift in yourself and your leadership impact in line with your vision and goals.

Step 7: Celebrate success and evaluate your progress

As we reach the end of your coaching programme, we will review your progress against your coaching goals and your overall leadership vision.  I will support you to reflect, celebrate your successes, learn from mistakes and embed new learning alongside defining your future personal development goals as a medical leader.

What can I offer you?

Through working with me as your coach, you can achieve:
