Care Quality Commission 2021/22
Chief Dental Officer's Clinical Fellow 2021/22

Sun qualified from Kings College London in 2018 and subsequently completed his Dental Foundation Training (DFT) in Southwest London. From there he continued to work in practice part time whilst undertaking two years of Dental Core Training (DCT). He spent his first year as a Maxillofacial DCT1 at Great Ormond Street and at the Eastman Dental Hospital. He then completed a Restorative DCT2 post at the Birmingham Dental Hospital. During this year, he also completed a PgCert in Medical Education to help support his teaching interests and commissioned as a dental officer in the army reserves.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Suns motivation join the scheme stems from a desire to develop his existing leadership skills to improve patient care and the welfare of the colleagues and teams he works with.Having had experience of delivering projects and initiatives at a local level he is hoping that this leadership scheme would provide him with the opportunity to tackle some of the wider challenges facing the dental profession at a national level.

As well as this, he believes the role would be incredibly beneficial for his own professional development. Increasing his understanding of healthcare management, as well as giving him an insider’s view of how the dental industry fits within the NHS on a national scale.

Ultimately, by surrounding himself with like-minded individuals with a wide variety of expertise, he hopes to further develop his management and leadership skills in a mentored environment, using them as a springboard for future leadership roles.
