Dr Susannah Eyre-Brook

NHS South West Region
NHS Regional Clinical Leadership Fellow 2022/23
Doctor

Susannah studied Medicine at Oxford University, qualifying in 2011. She completed her foundation years in London before moving to New Zealand to work for 16 months as a Medical Registrar. Susannah then moved to Newcastle upon Tyne to complete core medical training and then moved to Bristol where she worked as a Medical Registrar in the Care of the Elderly department at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. Here she co-led a pilot project on front door frailty which contributed to the development of an Acute Frailty Team in the hospital. She is now working as a GP trainee in the Bristol area.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Susannah believes that medical leadership is of huge importance in General Practice, as demonstrated by the Covid pandemic which saw General Practice show huge resilience and strength under pressure, adapting to continue providing excellent care and coordinating an enormous vaccine programme under extraordinary circumstances. This would not have been possible without strong leadership. Susannah applied for this fellowship to gain skills and knowledge to equip her to take on a future partnership role, or to work within the PCN or CCG after qualifying. Through good leadership she hopes to improve patient care, efficiency and morale within the practice she works in. Developing her leadership skills and style will help her to foster a collaborative, productive "can-do" culture wherever she works, and she will strive to continually improve links with secondary care and community services in order to give patients the care they deserve.
