Mr Tej Gadhia

Tej Gadhia qualified in dental surgery from the University of Birmingham. Following Dental Foundation Training, he completed Dental Core Training at the Royal London Dental Hospital and Public Health England (PHE) London, focussing on dental public health. During this time, he passed his membership exams for the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He subsequently spent a number of years working in general dental practice, alongside the out of hours dental services and community dental services in North East and North Central London, where he continues to deliver care.

In 2020, he completed a Public Health, Quality Improvement and Innovation Fellowship at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he delivered projects relating to oral health, smoke-free pregnancies and food parcels for vulnerable patients. Most recently, he was a health improvement programme manager at PHE London and in addition to his portfolio, he worked with the health protection team during the pandemic to support outbreak management across multiple settings pan-London. He is also a visiting research assistant at the Faculty of Dentistry, King’s College London.

Reason for applying for the scheme

Tej’s interest in clinical leadership has continued to develop over time and prior roles have helped him grow his leadership and management potential. During this fellowship he aims to hone these skills and use the opportunity to reflect on his own leadership style. He looks forward to learning from senior leaders and understanding the political landscape shaping dentistry and healthcare services. He hopes to augment his skills in policy interpretation with an insight into policy design and development, and aims to apply this learning to positively impact on healthcare policy and improve integrated, whole systems working with a focus on reducing health inequalities.
